Dr. Frost let me go through the cavity drilling and filling without shots! WOOHOO!

Initially he said it was extensive enough we'd have to numb it. I asked to try without and he said well... if it gets too bad we'll back off and give you the shots, and I'll go slowly, and holler if you have trouble, and all sorts of mumble mumble along those lines. I said great. He kept checking in all over the place: how's that? how are you doing? we just have a little more to clear out here. you okay?

I was *fine*. I would classify the sensations as "uncomfortable". I am SO glad I didn't have NEEEEEEEEDLES AAIIIIEEEEE. I thanked him muchly at the end. Dr. Frost is great.

I'm also really glad it's over, because I was very nervous that it would hurt massively and/or I'd need the shots. I was tossing and turning during the night. I couldn't decide which outcome would be worse. Yay for an easy visit!

(My bite feels funny now.)

Power to you!

Yay!

Even if you need the bite adjusted later on, that's a no-needle procedure for sure.

Thank you. Massive relief and pleased-it's-over to me! ;-)

I suspect I won't, but thanks -- I didn't know that! :-)

OWIE!!!!!

OK, I know it's not painful to you, or you're dealing with it better than I would, but OWIE!!!!

I'd love to play all superpower-pain-immune here, but I must say with complete honesty that it simply wasn't bad. This one, anyone could have done.

I think you're freaking insane!

I'd want shots just for getting my teeth cleaned. I hate shots, but I hate people messing with my teeth even more.

That said, I'm glad the dentist did what you wanted. that's great.

I guess we all have our priorities! For me the worst part of any dental thing (presuming I can get away without shots) is the gag reflex. This was a tooth pretty far back in my mouth, so it was a little hard to take.

I'm with you. My teeth are screaming from just reading that.

Ohmygod. Please, let me give birth to a 25 pound baby rather than ever get my teeth worked on without novocaine. Too too many bad visits to the dentist where there wasn't enough pain relief. My teeth hurt just thinking about going. I'm not quite to the point where I'll want general anesthetic just for a cleaning, but too many more bad experiences and I will.

I can't tell you how brave I think you are. And crazy. But mostly brave.

But but but but, it didn't hurt! I'd love to pretend I'm some sort of superhuman, but this one -- seriously. It wasn't bad at ALL. It felt "weird", and I'd give it "uncomfortable" because the sensations are unusual, but honestly truly that's as bad as it got.

Now giving birth to a baby -- YOU are brave. (And maybe a little crazy.) Epidural in the eighth month, over here!

The worst thing for me was thinking that any moment it was going to start to hurt. But it didn't really. That was a massive relief.

You wanted your cavity drilled and filled without anesthetic? =blinks= =shudders=

I know you said it didn't really hurt, but you must have a high pain threshold. I can't stand to my teeth worked on without anesthetic. I hate the needle too, but that's only for a moment -- the drilling always seems to last forever.

My late husband Tom always got his teeth filled without novocain. Like you, he said it didn't really hurt. I never could understand that -- but then, you know I have major dentaphobia. You're very lucky!

I'd guess Tom and I both had very shallow cavities, while you've had stuff that's deeper or otherwise more significant. Luck.

Perfectly apt icon! :)

As I previously admitted, I can't remotely relate. But I will say I'm very happy you got what you asked for, and that it turned out well for you. YAY!!!

After hearing how much my dentist checked in with me, my coworker said "I think you freaked out your dentist." Um. Oops. :-) (If true, though, that worries me a tinch. How many doctors are giving anaesthetic to how many people when it's not needed, if THAT appointment unsettled him? This visit had nothing I could label pain!)
