Pop culture != geek

Geekery is just a leetle less widespread than liking the same thing ten million other people like this week. Popular culture is not in and of itself geeky.

Oh, just general stuff over a number of years. Every so often I hear a comment that seems to imply the speaker thinks liking a particular very popular TV show or movie is geeky.
