Post-op appointment this morning. My doctor changed the bandages wrapped all over the outside of my foot but didn't touch the surgical tape over the actual incision. I took a picture, of course (edit: for upload tonight). My feet don't look very pretty. They're orange, wrinkled, and a little bit bruised. They are also starting to smell like feet. Wow did it ever feel good to have clean cotton wrapped around them! I got clean booties, too, and what's more, I got permission to WASH the booties! Oh heaven!

Heaven is clean socks

Would that make them... *ahem* ...holey? *scampers off*

The double meaning works well - these booties are actually just a long knit tube, twisted in half at the toe and folded back on themselves. So unless the twist is carefully done there's a hole at the toe.

How do the feet feel? Any less painful? Was the doctor pleased?
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 06:45 pm (UTC)
Pre-drilled - bonus! I usually have to wait for my big toenail to grow too long. :-)
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 06:47 pm (UTC)
pitiful, pitiful. where's the picture?
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 06:51 pm (UTC)
*snicker*

You're just bad!
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 06:52 pm (UTC)
Yay for new socks!

When do you get the tape over the incisions removed?

What did your doc say about how they're healing?
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 06:57 pm (UTC)
oh joy, oh rapture unforseen!
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 08:19 pm (UTC)
You should see how long my big toenail is. But then, I have wide feet, which means my toenails can grow for-freakin'-ever and not hit the ends of my shoes.

They just ache. It's not bad. The doctor seemed pleased with how they looked (yi, what a job, if that looks good) and pleased with my answer about the pain level.
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 08:20 pm (UTC)
Still on the camera. I can upload it tonight.
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 08:23 pm (UTC)
I didn't ask about when the tape gets removed -- I guessed it would be at next week's post-op. That's the last appointment I've got.

She was pleased with how they looked and with my answer about the pain level ("they ache", with a shrug). I must have been following directions properly! :-)

I am the very model of "the feet are healing properly"! :)

*blink* *blink* How do YOU drill holes in your socks? I thought everyone did that the same way!
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 09:12 pm (UTC)
I get holes when the ball of my foot decides it wants to breathe. I almost never get holes at the toes, since they never rub on anything (I have wide feet, too)

Mine won't hit the ends of my shoes for quite some length, either, but that's usually because I have such a high instep that in order to find shoes that fit, they end up being longer than they need to be (I'm always wearing through the tops of them with my big toes first, too).

I've symptoms that have sure confused the whole field of podiatry
I know the best of doctors, and I quote the facts historical
From metatarsel to calcaneum, in order categorical

(Sorry - I couldn't resist, now that I have an earworm! ;-))

I get holes on the ball of the foot and at the back of the heel. Like you, I don't get 'em at the toes.
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 09:31 pm (UTC)
I blow out the sides. My foot starts hanging over the empty space beside the edge of the sole. :-)
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 09:33 pm (UTC)
Oh, excellent! It took me ages just to do that first line and I'm still not very satisfied with it. (Now I'm trying to get rid of what I perceive as an extra syllable in the last line, but maybe I'm misremembering the proper scansion.) :-)
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 09:39 pm (UTC)
I'm pretty sure mine doesn't scan perfectly in the last line, but I think the first two of what I wrote do.
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 09:40 pm (UTC)
And maybe the end of my 2nd line should be quote facts anatomical instead of quote the facts historical which still ends like the original verse. :-)
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 09:48 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that's how I hear it as well.
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 09:50 pm (UTC)
Oh, even better! But then "in order categorical" needs tweaking. I'm coming up blank on a good rhyme for "anatomical".
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 09:52 pm (UTC)
Heh, I'm all about the feet... if my feet are happy and clean, I'm happy and clean :P
