I'm a little behind

(Hey, hush; this is the only context in which I can claim it, all right?)

4047 today. Need 8000 to be on track, given the days I'm out of town. Ungood. This weekend better be verrrry productive, as it's one of only two I have this month. Here's my poor little worm, still eyeless:

On the positive side, I finished Pimsleur Japanese I lessons 8 and 9 last night, or maybe it was 9 and 10. Yeah, 9 and 10. If I could only remember the word for "lunch" when they ask it I would be doing beautifully. As it is, I'm doing Mostly Really Good.

Sadly my cat is sick. If I wind up going to the vet a few times this month, I will drop NaNo. I have my priorities.

There is something very hard to remember about the Japanese word for "lunch". I haven't done any Pimsleur for a couple of months and I've already forgotten it. But I now have all three parts and I'll start up again soon!

I wonder if Pimsleur simply doesn't give that one as much repetition as it needs. Every so often this morning I have said to myself "hirugohan o tabemasu", just so that it gets IN THERE.

I also can't say "sh" or "ch" like the guy says them. (watashi, ichi for example.) Way forward in the mouth. I'll keep trying.

One thing I like about Pimsleur is that the words get into my head and I go to sleep and wake up with Japanese words in my head. It really helps me remember them and recognize them when I hear them.

I can't do several of the sounds perfectly either. But I figure that's not terribly important to being understood. (And mainly I'm not doing it to be understood, but to be able to understand more of the spoken language.)

I definitely like the way Pimsleur makes things stick. To this day I can say random things in Egyptian Arabic, a language I have not done ANYTHING with since last December.

I'm probably pronouncing things well enough to be understood, so that'll be okay. I don't have to impress anyone with my beautiful accent. I just have to find the right train.

You're doing this so you can listen to audio in Japanese, right? Has your comprehension of what you hear increased noticeably after a chunk of Pimsleur?

My comprehension has increased a lot more than I expected (I've only done the first 16 lessons out of 90 lessons). I still don't have enough vocabulary to follow most dialogue, but certain words jump out at me.

...certain words jump out at me.

I love it when that happens! It's like magic. :-)

I still need to dig out the hentai Japanese lessons for you.

very wise choice. "CJ's health and sanity" and "Jackiecat's health and comfort" better be on the TOP of the "list of really important things" -- nano will come around again next year. quitting Nano will not cause worldwide unrest or irreversable environmental damage. Not taking care of you and Jackie will.

Samkitty and Giles send their head-butts and noserubs to you and jackie, too.

Ooo, not taking care of my wonderful adored beloved ten pounds of fluff would cause worldwide unrest or irreversible environmental damage? I better get crackin'! 8-)

Please tell Samkitty and Giles thank you for the head-butts and noserubs.
