Garage, ginger jelly, chili

Productive day! (It helps that I'm not in much pain so far.)

* Assembled a couple units of steel shelving for the garage and helped reorganize. [livejournal.com profile] rfrench spent the afternoon continuing to tidy up in there. It's not looking lots emptier, but it's looking a whole lot cleaner and a bit better organized as well. One set of rickety ancient wooden shelves has already been broken up. The monstrosity nailed to the outer wall is at least almost empty. I'm pretty impressed.

* Went to work for a short time, picked up stuff to pore over tonight. Checked on mail - I had sent several people questions and they all replied "I don't know." Lovely. This means I need to USE THE SOURCE, LUKE... it's good advice, but that method does take time.

* Made ginger jelly by substituting Reed's Ginger Beer for the Mountain Dew in the Mountain Dew jelly recipe. As before, I got five eight-ounce jars filled. Mmm - can't wait to try some.

* Made a big pot of chili for a nearby family who's got just way too much on their hands right now. The last thing this woman needs is to be cooking for the kids. I hope they like chili.

Now I'm thinking of putting in a batch of chocolate chip cookies for this week's square dance group. I'd do it right this instant, but my feet are really starting to gripe at me. Maybe it's dinnertime.

Great minds ...

I made a batch of Kit's Mt. Dew jelly today using Mt. Dew's LiveWire then made a second batch using Reed's Cherry Ginger Brew! (I <3 Reed's brews and their candy is yummy too.) My family members and coworkers are all getting jelly and pickles for Christmas this year.

Two thumbs up! I haven't had Reed's candy but I like their ginger beer. 8-)

Are you putting the jelly in teeny tiny jars? I wish I could, so I could make up little boxed sets with different kinds. But all I have is the eight-ounce jars.

I'm just using half-pint jelly jars. I got 5.5 half-pints out of the Cherry Ginger batch (I processed the half full jar anyway and will just keep it for myself). When I made the LiveWire jelly, I just put a tiny bit less in each jar and managed to stretch it out to six jars.

They do make quarter pint jelly jars - or so I've heard. I've never seen them for sale anywhere around here though.

I wouldn't know those 4-oz. ones existed except I happen to have one in my fridge. It has some remnants of apricot jam, and it was given to me by a friend a few years ago. Now I want to go find some teeny tiny jars!
