Hail, Caesar

I'm about to go to... the post office. On the afternoon of the Ides of April. Tell my husband I love him, and somebody please take care of my cats.

OK, so I'm a pedant.

Nope, the ides of April was two days ago. According to dictionary.com
Ides
The 15th day of March, May, July, or October or the 13th day of the other months in the ancient Roman calendar.

Huh. Learn something new every day!

I'll watch over your cats.

Harry, my cat, is a tax cat. When I normally sit down in front of the computer to read email, or whatever, he doesn't jump up. But when I sit down with intent to do taxes, he immediately jumps up between me and the keyboard and needs pets.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He understands! You don't really want to do those taxes, do you? You'd rather pet him, wouldn't you? :-)

[livejournal.com profile] jackiecat is a Tax Cat in a different way. She has her birthday listed as today. I'm not sure of the real date but this is close enough.

Branwen is a tax-cat too :-)

If you ever get out of there, be sure to drop us a line.

And speaking of Jake, I mean to reply the other day to your comment... I was fortunate enough to find him, even though he wasn't with me anymore... (and I know I sound insane, but I swear I felt him leave and we found him the next day) Anyway...

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I made it back from the Gates of Hell. :-)

You did find him! Wow. I'm sorry he's not with you any more. That's so sad. I'm glad you have closure though...

[identity profile] joedecker.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
My God, why? Is there any other way?

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
My God, the humanity! :-)

I could e-file if only I had memorized what the Social Security Administration thinks my birthday is. The IRS double-checks e-filings against the records at the SSA, and kicks back the whole tax return if there's a mismatch. Of course I have not yet memorized the erroneous birthday. So I mail. Interestingly enough, a birthday is not required on a paper return. (YOU SEE? YOUR STUPID MINDS! STUPID! STU... oh sorry, where was I?)

The other thing I could've done is not run out of stamps this week. Oh well. :-)

[identity profile] joedecker.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
You can buy stamps at other places (grocery stores, many ATMs).

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes indeed. The ATM I stopped at yesterday was out of them, as was the grocery store I stopped at Monday. Any other objections, Your Honor?

[identity profile] joedecker.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You win. Can't blame me for tryin'. :)

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if "winning" means "yeah I really should NOT have procrastinated!" Oh well. I do it every year. I resolve not to do it next year, every year. :-J

We should do lunch again some time.

Ave atque vale!

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And hello again. :-)

[identity profile] jmkelly.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Vaya con Dios, seƱora.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Gracias. :-)

[identity profile] patgreene.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
My sincerest condolences. :D

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I made it out alive! :-)

The guy behind the counter had two big boxes labeled SACRAMENTO and FRESNO. He probably had more, but those are the two I saw. I asked him whether they have planning meetings for April 15, and he said no. I think the question amused him.

[identity profile] rfrench.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure Jackie and Duchess will be happy you are back from the Post Office wars to let them out of the little room they're currently locked in.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2004-04-15 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I really should go home. I'm not getting anything done here -- painkillers are NOT kicking in. Time to hit it with the secret weapon: a glass of wine!
