Until I get a decent exercise program, I'll just keep adding little things on to what I already do. Last night I made up one for my quadriceps: I put ten liters of water in my pack and went up and down the stairs in my house. Wow. By the time I'd done ten round-trips to the second floor, I was definitely feeling the burn.

They say that the best exercise to prepare you for backpacking is backpacking. Well then. Maybe if I do this stair thing a bunch, my legs will get all studly and I can do Half Dome next year!

And if I'm especially lucky I'll magically fit into those nice leather pants again. :-)

That's a great exercise, CJ. ANY kind of weight training you do will help immensely with backpacking. Besides, strengthening the quads is great for the knees. I've got crappy knees too, but I keep them in line with lots of leg-strengthening work.

You live near such cool backpacking places. I'm envious!

The physical therapist I went to for knee problems definitely wanted me to strengthen my quads.

Ah, to be twenty again. None of this used to require effort.

I love living near all these wonderful places! That and the lack of mosquitoes are the two things I would really really miss about California if I left.

You'll just have to come over and visit! 8-)

Well, next time you're on this coast, gimme a holler and we can see Tahoe or Yosemite or Muir Woods or Big Basin or... 8-)
