Another livejournal user (ekdogg) found your entry where you were interviewed and sent me your response about MIT. I must say, you have given one of the best descriptions of what it was like to go to school there - although, we do have to dispell the image that MIT is 'male-dominated' - that's just not true anymore.
You're right, it isn't -- although it was true when I arrived. The change was occurring rather suddenly during my years as an undergrad there. (I'm '89, by the way, 6-3, French House. Pleased to meet you!)
