Gah. When I was at the doctor's Tuesday morning I asked the scheduling person to please give me a call at work when she knew about insurance requirements and could schedule me.

The phone message I got Tuesday afternoon said the surgeon was scheduling "mid-August". *sigh* I'm impatient, plus there's a HUGE pile of work starting in mid-August and I'd've loved to be healed up a bit by then...

Naturally I didn't get this message at work; she called me at home, which meant that by the time I listened to the message the doctor's office had closed for the day. So I called back Wednesday morning.

The person who does that scheduling doesn't work Wednesdays. (You ever get the feeling you're being deliberately stymied?)

So I called back Thursday morning (just now).

Because my surgery's an hour instead of a half hour (two feet instead of one?), she says she can't fit me in until SEPTEMBER.

By tomorrow I bet it would have been October. Gah. I feel like I'm in one of those places where people don't line up for something, they just make a big pile and elbow each other out of the way and whoever's nastiest gets served first. I don't know how to dig my elbows into other people over the phone.

She says she'll look through the schedule and see if there are any holes that can be rearranged a little (defragmentation!) so I can be squeezed in earlier. And I'm on the wait list for any cancellations.

So, for now, September 1.

The woman who does the scheduling did comb through the schedule and did call me at work. She's got me down for August 18 and there's a possibility of a cancellation on August 4. I told her I owed her homemade cookies for combing through the schedule like that.

Ooo, I'm so hoping for August 4. ([livejournal.com profile] rfrench, if this schedule uncertainty means you can't drive me on short notice, I can take a cab or something. August 4!!)

I added an extra link to my watch band this morning. When it's tight enough that the outer surface is what's flush with my skin, well, then it's about time, right? I finally got a Round Tuit. I have one of those little tools to extract the pins, so it was easy.

Just a few minutes ago I was sitting at my desk and felt an odd sensation at my wrist. Ah yes, I thought only semi-consciously, of course, it's looser now.

Then my watch beautifully and gracefully fell off my wrist.

Oops.

I held very still. I bent my head to look down at my clothing. I moved one part of my body at a time. Sure enough, sitting on my chair was the pin that should have held it together. The watch clasp was still closed and it had separated right at the new link.

I put it back together with my thumbs. I shouldn't have been able to do that. Now I need that pin to get a little dirtier or something, so the friction is sufficient to keep it in place. Maybe that's where the sealing wax comes in.
