Last night the furnace got into a weird state where it would turn on its small fan and heat up the igniter, but not turn on the massive blower or trigger the flow of gas. It would sit there and click some relays, pulling enough power for a second or so to dim the yellow-hot igniter, and then would subside back into its sullen nonworking state. I think it wanted us to open up the case and vacuum out all the dustbunnies and bugs. We obliged.
After a while, the furnace decided it would be fun to run the blower without any heat. I don't know what it was asking us for that time, but what it got was shut down for the night.
It has two temperature limit sensors, apparently. One of these is a) hard to get to *and* b) once triggered, will not reset by itself no matter how long you wait. Is this the place for my biennial rant about intelligent design?
This morning Rob did *something* to reset? make it ignore? that switch, and the furnace is working again. YAY ROB!
