I'm starting to make more public entries. It's about time.

I've also turned off anonymous replies to my journal, because a friend just got a hit-and-run insult (who the hell lives for that sort of thing, anyway?) and that was a good reminder to go take down my own "COWARDS HERE" invitation.

Went to the podiatrist this morning. Poke, prod, X-ray, yadda yadda. He says it looks like a purely mechanical problem. There is no evidence of joint degeneration due to arthritis. No fractures are visible. My metatarsals are funny lengths and one's too high, both of which can help cause this kind of ache. I now expect that if I had simply rested, REALLY rested, for a week or two, I'd've been fine. But who has the time to do that? :-)

He taped the hell out of my foot and now it HURTS EVEN WORSE to walk on it! Owie owie! It's supposed to improve in the next couple days, though, and if it does, I get orthotics. (If it doesn't I don't know what I get -- surgery?) So I hop along, and I shower with a plastic bag over my foot for a while, and I see him again in a week.

The "bookcase" (seven feet of drawers, actually, instead of shelves) is IN. It's assembled, every rail has a drawer and every drawer has knobs, the bottom of the unit has gliders to make it movable on carpet, I moved the desk and all contents, I removed the hanging lamp, I put the Object where it needed to be, I put back the desk and all contents. I have triumphed.

(The desk, in case any of you care, is @#$!ing HEAVY. So's the bookcase.)

Remaining to do: Figure out how to replace the hanging lamp - light is nice to have. Finish installing earthquake strap. (I found a stud! No, not that kind.) Recycle about an acre of cardboard.

All this work to avoid simply getting rid of the crap that was stored in that corner. Cluttering is expensive!
