What would the US economy be like if, every time its government passed a law regulating some form of commerce or industry, the GOVERNMENT was directly obligated to pick up the tab for compliance? How would the legislative process be different from what the US has today? What social patterns might result?

"In women, these hormonal cycles affect hunger and fullness, a surprising new analysis indicates."
Surprising? Hormonal cycles affect hunger and fullness? Next they'll be reminding me I have boobs.
Yup, it's true: I'm cynical about the level of research relating to women's bodies. Any guy who's ever looked down his nose at me for my frustration is welcome to earn his sneer by fixing my menstrual pain. Step right up; the line forms right here.

1. Taxes: TurboTax purchased, disk cleaned up to make space, return complete. Printed. Need to mail (Monday). All the staples on all my forms are a lovely lime green. :-)
2. Leak in roof: temporary patch applied. Seems to be working.
3. Bay to Breakers: thoroughly confused by categories on web page (one place clearly states "fun runners" means WALKERS/STRIDERS/FAMILIES, while the set of categories on the registration form implies "fun runners" means ANYONE not seeded or sub-seeded) so will register later. Price goes up on the 15th.
4. Dinner with a bunch of Rob's friends from skating. I was definitely the outsider, being the only non-skater and one of two who spoke no Cantonese, but despite my "outsider status" I really enjoyed myself. Conversation was lively and fun.
Remaining to-do items I'd hoped to do today:
- start on a will and related documents (been on my list since surgery)
- install Phoenix
- finish washing dishes from fridge purge
I'll do the dishes and pour myself a glass of wine. I'm content with what I got done.
