Oh my goodness, it's going to let me update. I have been soooooooo itchy not being able to read comments, not being able to reply to things, and not being able to update! A whole bunch of backdated entries will follow. Keep your eye out for CJ's Wonderful Weekend, and more! :-)

Pretend I'm writing this on Tuesday. :-)

Rob and I went on a trip this past weekend. He'd been planning it for months and finally found a time we could go. The destination was a surprise for me. I had to tell people at work "I'll be out Friday" and then, when asked where I'd be, reply "I don't know." :-) That was fun. When I came back, everyone wanted to hear about it!

More about the trip... )

Sunday it was time to do some exploring. Hiked around the area a bit. I found some bones - so now I can say I've truly had the "desert experience". :-)

Drove down to Bisti Badlands (national park? state park? something.) Very odd formations caused by uneven erosion of softer/harder layers of rock. Climbed around in those for a while. Saw one other human being: a guy with the friendliest pit bull in the universe. I wouldn't let her lick my glasses :-) but she was happy to get scritches and lick anything I left unguarded, like my hands.

Tried to get to Chaco. Road out. Rats. Didn't want to drive all the way down to 9 to find the other road. The roads we were already on were crappy enough...

Drove to the town of Aztec, where there is a set of very extensive Puebloan ruins. Wow. Impressive how well they've lasted. Impressive how many stories they were (not sure I'd trust a floor of just wood and mud, but it clearly worked for them). Boggles my mind how little we know about those peoples today.

Dinner in town. Everyone around was Native American. I think I saw maybe three other white people the entire weekend. I cannot tell someone's tribe by appearance (don't know if that's a possible thing, even) but there are a large variety of reservations around: Ute, Hopi, Navajo, many others...

No stargazing: cloud cover. Oh well. The valley, seen from the cave entrance, is beautiful bathed in moonlight.

Looooovely massage later on. I am so spoiled!

On our way out, we flew over... let's see... Shiprock, Rainbow Bridge, Marble Canyon (stopped there just to experience that runway - glad I wasn't landing!), Grand Canyon, the Glen Canyon Dam and Hoover Dam, and then some dismally cloudy Sierras. Fun turbulence. Wheee! :-)

What a fantastic weekend. :-)
