Ouch

They're chopping down a tree outside.

Sad.

Noisy.

("they" = city of Sunnyvale employees. This also happens to block access to my driveway and any parking on this side of the street for several houses' worth, but I'd be happier to keep the tree...)

:-(

Does it appear to be blocking power lines or something?

Nah, the power lines are behind the house. The claim was that the tree had some kind of disease, though I sure didn't see it. The leaves were strong and green and flat, the bark was smooth and sturdy, it bloomed like crazy every spring... I figure if doctors were that picky about humans I'd have been killed for my first head cold.

What kind of a tree? There are indeed things that are nasty enough to warrant this action. Dutch Elm Disease, for instance.

A flowering pear. It was so pretttyyyyyy... reminiscent of cherry trees in the spring.

At least we still have the plum tree, two tree-spacing-units down the road.

I hate it when trees are murdered. It's so sad. I once witnessed my favorite little grove reduced to wood chips in a matter of days. Bleh. :(

They'll put a new tree in, but it won't be as nice as the old one. sniffle.
