Major life changes

Someone I value said to me last night:

"When you get to the grief phase, let me know."

She knew this change was a big deal and she knew it was for the best. She also knew it was at least a temporary if not a permanent goodbye to something I worked for (mostly successfully!) for over a decade, and she knew what happens when those kinds of goodbyes come into our lives. She figured out this whole picture. Then she offered her support.

This is a step above your basic entry-level human, here. ♥

Thanks for adding me to your list. I've seen your name for many years through Bill Eyler. I really enjoy reading about the square dancing events. I read your profile. Has your foot condition profoundly affected your dancing, too?

Ironically, I wrote a Facebook post today that spoke about how all different kinds of loss can define us ...

Yes, my foot condition means I mostly can't dance at all. I still call, and I hope to be more active in calling now that I'm switching careers back to something with a semblance of free time.

Ah, I'd probably enjoy reading that FB post. Any chance you'd want to cross-post it here?

(Sadly, I've been away from FB so long that I've forgotten my password there. That too is a loss, but that one is very complex. Obviously there's the use of the platform for evil, which is hard to stomach. But the more pervasive bit is that the more of a snob or an intellectual bully a person is, the more hearts and thumbs up they get. People I like in real life are jerks on FB. Twice I had almost banned a person whom, in meatspace, I was in love with! On the other hand, it's really the best and nearly the only place to stay in touch with most people. So it is a very real loss.)

I've been profoundly saddened by the lessening of the interaction on any sites other than FB (not for thoughtful writing of substance as LJ once was) or Instagram (never tried it). I am pretty direct on FB, especially about politics, but am tiring of the battles. I will be on LJ or Dreamwidth till the end.

I too am saddened by, essentially, FB winning the race to the bottom. I wish they hadn't wiped out every other site of value along the way.

"Tiring of the battles" oh goodness yes. It's as if I always had to be on the defensive, always wary, always ready for the next attack. I... didn't want to know that that's what people were like underneath, y'know? :(
