Metatarsal pads

The metatarsal pads I ordered almost two weeks ago arrived yesterday.

They're AWFUL. The dome part is way, way too big and tall. They hurt. They barely leave room for my foot inside my shoe. It takes six or seven tries to get the pad and the foot in there, with roughly the right placement. Once I do, no part of my plantar arch touches the shoe, the dome is that tall - in fact it's taking a lot of the weight off my heel, too. (No wonder it hurts.)

Plus I'm not supposed to use them if I'm diabetic.

Back to the drawing board...

If the diabetes thing turns out to be real, I guess you'd need to see a podiatrist. There's no reason why diabetics can't use shoe inserts, the store-bought ones just tell you to consult your doctor or say "not for diabetics" because they don't want anyone suing them. The main concern is people who do not have adequate sensation in their feet to tell when they've been hurt or injured.

I figured poor circulation would also be a concern given the pressure this thing exerts (its purpose is to put weight on that arch, after all). Fortunately, I'm already seeing a podiatrist. Oddly enough I bumped into him at a restaurant today, too! :-)
