UGH.

Well. I got sick of browser problems related to LJ -- the latest is not being able to reply to a comment, because the page simply won't load -- so I updated to Netscape 7.02.

This is HEINOUS.

Most things are faster and more reliable. Typing, however, seems to max out at three characters per second. I type a sentence or two and wait several breaths for the text box to catch up with me.

I may have to give up on LJ.

[Now awaiting "advice" of the form "use my browser". Also awaiting insight into this behavior, if anyone's got that.]

You'll probably like Phoenix better. It's a mozilla based browser, but doesn't have Mail/News and a bunch of other stuff you probably don't need. I can build one just for you if you'd like :-)

Yeah, you should be using IE!! On WindowsXP!!!

Please don't hurt me ;-)

No advice on the typing speed problem (this is still on NT4, right?) though you might find it useful to look at "livejournal clients" - I don't know if people write them due to dislike of browsers, or because they use fewer resources, or because they are better at letting you stash/archive your writing locally. But they do write them... there's even a palm client, which at least makes sense given the palm browsers.

Just a thought... _Mark_

I'd also recommend Phoenix (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/phoenix/) (It is like Mozilla without all the crack and quaaludes). Furthermore, I'd also recommend downloading one of the cool Live Journal Clients (http://www.livejournal.com/download/).

I've had the slow typing problem before...

[identity profile] gev.livejournal.com 2003-04-12 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
but it's very intermittent. pretty rare even. with various browsers.
have you rebooted yet? :)

one odd thing when I was having the slow typing problem...
I decided to try composing in notepad and then pasting into the text box.
Guess what, it worked like your normal cut & paste, quick as lightning.

Again, the oddball

I use Opera. But then again, I'm a Pegasus e-mail user...

What you really need (heh. pure 100% unadulterated geek answer syndrome) is to use an LJ client and update from that, cutting the browser out of the picture.

Or you could quit LJ and take up somehting new, like wire hanger sculpture.
